Welcome to VelurPedia ("we," "our," "us," or the "Platform"). VelurPedia is an open-content, collaborative online encyclopedia dedicated to documenting the village of Velur, Thrissur, Kerala, India.

Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms") carefully before using our website or contributing any content. By accessing, browsing, reading, or editing VelurPedia, you ("User" or "you") agree to be legally bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately cease all use of the Platform.

1. Open-Source Collaborative Nature

VelurPedia is built on a volunteer-driven, collaborative wiki model. The content of the Platform is compiled and edited by various users and volunteers from the community. Consequently:

  • We do not review, endorse, or verify user submissions for accuracy, truthfulness, or legal compliance before they appear online.
  • We make no guarantees regarding the validity, accuracy, safety, or completeness of the information on the Platform.
  • You acknowledge that you may be exposed to inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or outdated information, and you agree that you use the Platform entirely at your own risk.

2. License to Use Content (CC BY-SA 4.0)

To grow the public commons of free knowledge, all text contributions made to VelurPedia are, and must be, licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

By submitting, writing, or editing text on VelurPedia, you represent and warrant that:

  • You own the copyright or have obtained all necessary permissions to publish the content under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.
  • Your contribution does not infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, or proprietary rights of any third party.
  • You grant us and all subsequent users a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to copy, distribute, transmit, display, perform, adapt, and make commercial use of the text.

3. User Accounts and Registration

While you may browse the Platform without an account, contributing, editing, or uploading media requires you to create a user account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete registration information.
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of your account password.
  • Accept sole responsibility for all edits, uploads, and activities that occur under your username.

We reserve the absolute right to suspend, terminate, or delete user accounts at our sole discretion, without notice, for any reason, including but not limited to vandalism or breach of these Terms.

4. Rules of Conduct

To maintain a civil, collaborative, and legal environment, you agree that you will NOT engage in any of the following activities on the Platform:

  • Vandalism: Intentionally deleting, corrupting, or defacing legitimate article content.
  • Defamation & Harassment: Uploading content that is libellous, slanderous, defamatory, abusive, threatening, or harassing to any individual or community.
  • Copyright Infringement: Copying text from copyrighted books, news articles, or other websites without permission.
  • Impersonation: Impersonating any other person, editor, administrator, or organization.
  • Malicious Code: Uploading files containing viruses, Trojan horses, or other harmful code.
  • Spam & Self-Promotion: Using the Platform to advertise commercial products, services, or personal ventures.

5. DMCA / Intellectual Property Rights

If you are a copyright owner or an agent thereof and believe that any content hosted on our Platform infringes your copyrights, you may submit a notifications of claimed infringement. To be effective, the notification must be sent through our designated Contact Page form on the website (selecting the "Legal and Copyright" category) and must include:

  • A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of the infringed right.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
  • Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing and its exact URL on VelurPedia.
  • Your contact details: name, address, telephone number, and email.
  • A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE PLATFORM AND ALL CONTENTS ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE PLATFORM WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL VELURPEDIA, ITS CREATORS, ADMINISTRATORS, EDITORS, OR COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, ARISING OUT OF (A) YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE PLATFORM; (B) ANY CONTENT CONTRIBUTED BY THIRD PARTIES; OR (C) ANY UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS.

8. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and your use of VelurPedia shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of India and the State of Kerala, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any legal action, suit, or proceeding arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be instituted exclusively in the competent courts located in Thrissur, Kerala, India.

9. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. Any changes will be posted on this page and will be effective immediately. Your continued use of the Platform after the posting of changes constitutes your binding acceptance of the updated Terms.
