About VelurPedia
VelurPedia is a personal project by Agnel Francis — a free, open encyclopedia dedicated entirely to documenting the village of Velur, located in Thrissur district, Kerala, India.
Why VelurPedia?
Velur is a significant place — rich in history, culture, and community life. Yet, compared to its importance, very little documented historical data about Velur is available online. Most of what is known lives in the memories of residents, in physical archives, or in scattered references on broader platforms. VelurPedia was created to change that.
The goal is simple: to help Velur access and contribute more data, and to make that data available to everyone — researchers, students, historians, residents, and anyone curious about this part of Kerala — for any purpose, freely.
The Project
VelurPedia uses the same Wikipedia-style user interface, theming, and features that most people are already familiar with — including Wikitext formatting, infoboxes, internal article linking, category pages, and a section-based article structure. This makes it easy for anyone who has contributed to Wikipedia to contribute here just as naturally.
However, there are some differences from standard Wikipedia formatting to suit the needs of a locally-focused wiki. These are documented in the Editing Guide, which covers everything from how to write infoboxes and add images to linking between articles correctly.
How to Contribute
Anyone can create an account and submit edits or new articles. All submissions from community members go through an editorial review process before being published, to ensure accuracy and quality. If you are logged in as an administrator, your changes are published immediately.
Whether you know a story about Velur's history, have photographs of local landmarks, or want to improve existing articles — your contribution matters. Start by reading the Editing Guide to understand how formatting works, then visit any article and click "Edit" to get started.
Open Access
All content on VelurPedia is freely available to read, reference, and share. The project is built on the belief that local knowledge should not be locked away — it should be accessible, searchable, and preserved for future generations.
